Since Baba Jaga is a guide into the underworld in Slavic tradition, I am telling this fairy tale for Samhain portal in 2022 and show how to make an ancestors doll as she appears in form of the deceased mother to Wasilissa in the tale. I learned this doll making of a "Bereginja" in Siberia in an Anastasia kin domain.

In this recorded masterclass, I am telling the Slavic fairy tale "Wasilissa and Baba Jaga". I love how Baba Jaga is portrayed as all powerful in this story, owning the white, red and black horse powers standing for the day, red sun and night powers, and how she provides Wasilissa with the fire that saves her from her evil stepmother and jealous stepsisters. The fire represents courage and life force energy to me. I also love how Baba Jaga can shapeshift into different appearances and also dances with death and can make magic and alchemy with whatever life throws at her and she shows benevolence with Wasilissa who has braved to face her and can appreciate her magic.

In this 1,5 hours long recoded masterclass on 30th of October 2022, I told the fairy tale at the beginning and then showed how to do a Siberian ancestors magical doll. I learned this handcraft art from women in an Anastasia kin domain in Siberia where those dolls are called “Bereginja” and are sacred and the woman breathes life into her through her intentions. It could be for health, attraction of partner, good fortune etc…

Materials needed: Materials needed are different size cloths in the shape of squares and some white threads. If you like, you can bring some herbs or dried flowers to stuff the doll or make her a pouch in the hand. Please also bring some wool for stuffing.You can also be creative and bring old socks or other cloths that you like to up-cycle.
